OVERVIEW
In this lesson, students will use a secondary source material to research one state park of Texas and demonstrate the role of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the establishment of my chosen park.
LESSON TIME
This lesson will take approximately 45 – 60 minutes Exact times may vary based on the specific needs of individual classes.

- What role did the Civilian Conservation Corps play in the establishment of Texas state parks, and how can we see the legacy of this role today?

This ready-to-use classroom slideshow contains the warm-up exercise, the daily objective, the “We will / I will” statements, and the essential question for the lesson.
It guides the class through the assignment providing larger versions of images, visual representations of the directions, and supports for reading and answering questions including sentence stems for in-class responses. It concludes with the exit ticket.

Warm-up & Exit Ticket
In this printable warm-up / bell-ringer activity, students will make observations about an image of Caddo Lakes state park and the accompanying caption provided for the image to predict how the image connects to the Great Depression.
In this exit ticket, students will answer a question based on the 8th grade STAAR item type, Hot Spot, to identify three statements that best characterize the significance and legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Texas.
The Warm-up and Exit Ticket document includes two warm-ups on the front of the page and two exit tickets on the back of the page. This formatting reduces the number of copies needed, as teachers will cut each printed page in half. Each student will receive a half-page with the warm-up on the front and the exit on the back.

In this printable assignment, students will research one state park in the designated material from the Portal to Texas History, recording key information about their chosen park and identifying and defining 1 new or challenging term from the reading. Students then take part in an activity to learn from their peers about 2 additional state parks.
