Description
OVERVIEW
In this lesson, students will use the information and context of several short passages to identify and record the definition of each term and provide examples of the term in the context of our unit.
LESSON TIME
This lesson will take approximately 90 - 120 minutes
With an optional 30 – 45 minute quiz
Exact times may vary based on the specific needs of individual classes.

- What are the key terms we need to know to understand this unit on the Great Depression, and what is the meaning of these terms in the context of our unit?

This ready-to-use classroom slideshow contains the warm-up exercise, the daily objective, the “We will / I will” statements, and the essential question for the lesson.
It guides the class through the assignment providing larger versions of images, visual representations of the directions, and supports for reading and answering questions including sentence stems for in-class responses. It concludes with the exit ticket.

Warm-up & Exit Ticket
In this printable warm-up / bell-ringer activity, students will self-assess their own prior knowledge of four vocabulary terms in this unit: economic depression, relief, unemployment, and stock market. Students will determine their level of familiarity with each of these terms and write what they know or what they can predict or infer about the meanings of these words.
In this exit ticket, students will use a word bank of different terms to choose three to five terms that best relate to the major themes in our unit. They will highlight or circle these terms. Students create a short, constructed response explaining how one of their chosen terms relates to or represents the main ideas or major events of the unit.
The Warm-up and Exit Ticket document includes two warm-ups on the front of the page and two exit tickets on the back of the page. This formatting reduces the number of copies needed, as teachers will cut each printed page in half. Each student will receive a half-page with the warm-up on the front and the exit on the back.

In this printable assignment, students will use multiple-choice answer options to match vocabulary terms to their definitions, complete fill-in-the-blank statements using multiple-choice options, and answer four comprehension questions based on 8th grade STAAR question types including short constructed response with sentence stems and response options and multi-select. Questions with multiple-choice options have one option eliminated. Questions include primary source materials including an excerpt and a photograph.
